Professional Development at iTaLAM

The goals of our professional development training are to provide teachers who teach iTaLAM programs with the best tools, skills, and content, to enable students in the Diaspora to study Hebrew and Jewish heritage.


Training Institute:

Our training institute are the most comprehensive programs offered. The face-to-face training track includes six full days of professional development, four days during the summer and an additional two days in the winter. The training program offers a variety of possibilities for educators, for teachers who are new to implementing the program, as well as experienced users and for principals and coordinators, to better understand the various parts of the iTaLAM program.



Summer 2020 Training Institutes

We are happy to invite you to join the 2020 iTaLAM Summer Training Institutes.

The teacher courses this year have been revamped with a focus on experiential learning and differentiated instruction!

  • Workshops to adapt the curriculum to fit the time constraints in your school
  • Practical workshops for teaching in small groups (rotation) or a teaching model for full class instruction with individualized work on the digital component.
  • Administrator and Hebrew/Judaic Studies Coordinator path – Only two days.
  • At Ramat Rachel – Special sessions for Shlichim who will be teaching iTaLAM
  • We continue to differentiate with a special track for veteran iTaLAM teachers

The face to face training will take place on the following dates and places:

  • Wilshire Grand Hotel, West Orange, New Jersey, USA
    • Teacher Tracks: June 22 – 25, 2020
    • Administrator Track: June 24 – 25, 2020 with an option to join a teacher track for June 22-23, 2020
  • Ramat Rachel Hotel, Jerusalem, Israel
    • Teacher Tracks: July 13 – 16, 2020
    • Administrator Track: July 15 – 16, 2020 with an option to join a teacher track for July 13-14, 2020

Administrators, coordinators and teachers who cannot attend the face to face training will have the opportunity to participate in online training with synchronized video conference meetings or personalized training/coaching.

Winter 2020 Training Institutes

Join the Winter 2020 iTaLAM Training Institute and learn about the new and significant innovations in iTaLAM in addition to learning about the content and the Learning Management System (LMS) at the Winter Institute 2020.


Where and when will it take place?

  • New Jersey: Wilshire Grand Hotel,West Orange, NJ
    • iTaLAM 1 and 3 Tracks will meet February 10-11, 2020
    • iTaLAM 2 and 4 tracks will meet February 12-13, 2020
    • Administrator/Coordinator track will meet February 12-13, 2020
    • iTaLAM 5 Pilot track will meet February 10-11, 2020 (to registered schools only)

What is the cost of the iTaLAM Training Institute?

  • Commuter – $340 (2 days – including lunch and dinner)
  • Double Occupancy Room – $410 (2 days/1 night)
  • Single Occupancy Room – $480 (2 days/1 night)
  • Additional nights at the hotel for Sunday night or Tuesday night prior to the training session will be charged at a rate of $170 for a single room and $85 for a double room.

What do you need to bring to the iTaLAM Training Institute?

  • A computer and charger: You cannot use the Learning Management System (LMS) on an iPad. Therefore, we recommend that you bring a Windows laptop or a Chromebook.
  • Headphones
  • Your teacher username and password for iTaLAM (if you have one)
  • A good mood and a willingness to learn and share

Important Information

iTaL AM 1, 2 , 3, 4 and 5  Training Institutes in parallel tracks are offered in different locations twice during the year:   The Summer iTaLAM Institute – Part I of the Training Institute presents theory and methodology underlying the iTaLAM program, and introduces the units studied during the first half of the school year.   The Mid-year or Winter iTaLAM Institute – Part II of the Training Institute is devoted to the units studied during the second half of the school year, while continuing to expand on the pedagogical approach of iTaLAM.    Tracks offered at the Training Institutes:

  • Administrator and Hebrew/Judaic Studies Coordinator Track (2 day training)*

*Please do not make travel arrangements until we confirm the availability of these tracks.

  • In grades 1, 2, 3 and 4, iTaLAM and TaL AM are fully integrated and complementary to one another. Therefore, if you register for one of these grades, you will be training for both iTaLAM and TaL AM.
  • When you make your travel arrangements, please plan to arrive prior to the start of the program and depart after its conclusion.
  • Check in and registration begin at 8:30 AM on the first day of the training.
  • Training ends at 4:00 PM on the final day of the training.

Training Institute Benefits

The institutes enable participants to:

  • Study the brain-based learning principles of iTaLAM.
  • Learn the methodology of Communicative & Heritage Language and Literacy Development.
  • Become acquainted with the content, concepts, skills and material of the program.
  • Observe iTaLAM instruction on videotaped lessons of classes studying with the program.
  • Learn how to assess students’ achievements and use results for planned instruction.
  • Observe alternative teaching approaches and ways of organizing the classroom.
  • Fine-tune instructional skills to serve students’ varied learning styles and needs.
  • Learn to prepare a classroom portfolio and utilize it to communicate the achievements of each student, the curriculum learned, and its linkage to the next grade.

  • Up to 14 days before the institute: full refund
  • Up to 7 days before the institute: 50% refund of the full price
  • After 7 days before the institute, or non-attendance: 20% refund of the full price
